Knowledge Center/FAQPecan prices overall seem to be higher than in previous years...why? Much of the southern United States, and especially Texas, experienced a drought this season that literally lasted six months. As a result, the nation's pecan crop is small while demand for pecans is high (supply and demand, you know?) Also, we all know fuel expenses are up, electricity to run irrigation wells is up, the cost of fertilizer is up, even pecan shellers in our area raised their prices 25%! Raising pecans is an agriculture venture...or we call it an adventure since we never know what to expect next. Pecans themselves are a commodity and market prices fluctuate weekly. We wish we could sell our pecans for a buck seventy-five, like we could a few years ago...we also wish gasoline was ninety nine cents a gallon...but. |
